My Tutima Flieger F2 is about as classic looking as a pilot chronograph can get. That’s why I love it so much. Bi-directional coin-edge bezel, black dial, Arabic numerals, railroad track chapter rings on the sub-dials (my favorite feature), the list goes on and on.
It’s classically sized too. The stainless steel case comes in a few ticks under 39mm. Purists might quibble about the thickness – a rather modern 16mm – but I find that oddly satisfying. Gives the watch some substance.
And the features don’t stop there. There’s a domed sapphire crystal (which contributes 2-3mm to the thickness), a screw down crown, and a display case back.
Now, with a standard Valjoux 7750 inside, there’s little reason to HAVE a display case back, but Tutima has finished the rotor with Geneva stripes and signed it with their distinctive semi-script ‘T.” logo. And movements – even common ones like the 7750 – are fascinating to watch.
And finally, the F2 looks great on the aftermarket BUND strap I found in a forum a few years ago.
Now, for a few barrel rolls in my trusty Sopwith Camel…
